"Are people cowardly because they don't use violence?"

"There's nothing weak about a technique of struggle, which can take legitimacy away from a repressive government; which can produce a defiant population uncontrollable by the police and military forces sent to repress them.  There is nothing weak about paralyzing an economic system; or in mobilizing and causing to fall apart a political system.... There is nothing naive about making repression against non-violent people rebound to weaken the power of those who gave the orders for the repression.... I say non-violent struggle is armed struggle!...Only with this type of struggle one fights with psychological weapons, social weapons, economic weapons, and political weapons.  This is a technique of combat!  It is a substitute for war!"

"Political power is derived from identifiable sources.  These include

1. authority (or legitimacy);

2. human resources (individuals, groups & institutions);

3. skills and knowledge;

4. intangible factors (including habits of obedience, doctrine & beliefs);

5. material resources (including economic; communication and transportation systems), and

6. sanctions and punishments (provided by police, prisons, and military force).

And yet, ALL of those sources of power are made available by the obedience, cooperation and assistance of people, groups, and institutions.  These are what Robert Helbig calls "Pillars of Support."  When that obedience and that cooperation is not merely restricted but cut off, the survival of that regime is very doubtful.  This is true even of extreme dictatorships.  Without those 6 sources of power, even a dictatorship or other system of oppression dies of political starvation."  Dr. Gene Sharp

Requirements for Success:  Must have a strategy.  Planning is the key to success.  Planning is the secret to avoiding failure after success.

Dictators fear when people are not afraid any longer.
